I really do feel for you, my father died last year, and (although not in a care home) the story of 'couldn't care less' NHS staff is pretty much identical.

We are pursuing complaint action - it won't change anything, but by God, it makes us feel better!

Chin up, you'll get through it, no matter how bad it seems at the moment. There's no other alternative, after all, is there?

Many thanks everyone. So far l am doing fine but Mum is having a hard time.

I am sorting the paperwork myself so far seems to be going ok.

Probate what's worrying me most trying to work out what the heck it is for everything is very vague l have read on it but that's tomorrows job. If worse comes to worse will get a lawyer for that.

Hub said today that looking at me mumbling and muttering he is going to put together a file with all the info to hand. Banks and numbers, insurance companies policy details, who holds what and where. Tick boxes for contacted/date/outcome etc.

I think it is also sensible to consider a low cost funeral plan. Wills we have.

Julia good luck with your complaint. What the heck is up with the nhs. The ambulance service has been outstanding. A & E and resus have been excellent. As soon as the patient hits the wards things seems to dissolve.

Re your last and JuliaM's, it is amazing how many families, my own included, have stories of utter horror and disgrace, re elderly loved ones who have been let down/abandoned/overlooked/left unwashed/dentures mouldering...I could go on. No compassionate individual nurse or doctor would deliberately do such a thing, yet systemically these things happen and are horrific. Stay angry but in control, Julia and Caro.
